JUVENILE GAA:

The Bruree Juvenile GAA Awards night will take place on this Friday, February 7th, in Bruree Community Hall from 7.00 to 9.00 pm. 2013 was a very successful year for the club and the County Under 13 and Under 16 Hurling medals presentation will be the centrepiece of the awards night. Admission is free and entertainment is provided by Brian O’Dwyer. Everyone is welcome.

CLERKS COLLECTION:

The collection for the Parish Clerk in Bruree will be taken up on Sunday, February 16th. Your generosity would be greatly appreciated.

BRUREE GAA:

National Club Draw: The National Financial Management Committee of the GAA has been agreed to run a draw for Clubs to assist Clubs in their fund-raising. Bruree GAA will be promoters of this draw.
Tickets are just €10 each and Bruree GAA will retain the proceeds of all the tickets sold by the club. The draw will be held on St. Patrick’s Day 2014 and the final date for purchasing tickets is March 5th.
The draw prizes are as follows:
1. A trip for two (match tickets, airline tickets and accommodation) for the International Rules series in Australia in 2014.
2. The Ultimate Football package 2014 including All Ireland Football Final tickets, All Stars banquet tickets and airline tickets to Boston for the All Stars 2014 tour complete with hotel accommodation.
3. Two Corporate Box tickets for a concert of your choice in Croke Park in 2014 with pre-concert hospitality.
4. Travel voucher to the value of €1,500.
5. All Ireland Football Final package 2014 including Corporate Box tickets to the All Ireland Football Final with pre-match lunch and corporate hospitality and overnight accommodation for two nights (Saturday & Sunday x one room) in a Dublin hotel. COMMUNITY HALL:

Rockhill and Bruree community hall are holding a table quiz on Friday, February 21st, in the Central Bar, Bruree.  There is a prize for the winning team and a raffle on the night. Entry is €5 per head and all proceeds will be going to the continued renovation of the hall. All welcome!
Thank-you to everyone who made a donation and placed a message on the memories Christmas tree at the community hall's Christmas fair. A total of €115 was raised and donated to Edel Quinn House, Bruree.
Rockhill and Bruree community hall committee will be holding it’s AGM on Friday, March 7th, in the hall at 8.00 pm. Anyone wishing to get involved with the running and renovation of the hall is very welcome.

BADMINTON:

What a night of badminton we had in the hall when both our 4s and 5s took on the University of Limerick in the league. Our 4s continued their good run by winning 5-2 but our 5s lost out by the narrowest of margins, 4-3. The grade 4 team was Eileen McMahon, Eileen O’Shea, Elaine O’Dwyer, Margaret Deady, Danny Deady, Mike McCarthy and Frank Finn. The grade 5 team was Catherine Ford, Stephanie Conway, Rebecca Murphy, Brendan Hogan, David O’Brien and James O’Brien. On behalf of the club thank you to all our supporters who turned up in the cold and helped by cheering us on. Well done to all.

DEFIBRILLATORS:

The Rockhill Bruree Defibrillator Association is currently looking for new members to join it’s group of volunteers in ensuring that the defibrillator service continues to be available in the parish. This is a very important facility which has a large and dedicated group of people who work on a voluntary basis to ensure that this vital piece of life saving equipment is available if and when it is needed. You could contribute to saving the life of a friend or neighbour. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, contact John Daly 087-2388924 or John Carey 087 2701771. Full training is provided and the ongoing time commitment involved is small but vital.

COMPUTER AND INTERNET TRAINING FOR BEGINNERS:

Irish Rural Link is again providing the Benefit 4 Basic Computer Training Programme to people all across Ireland. These courses will teach the basics such as how to turn on your computer, use the internet, shop and pay bills online, send and receive emails, use online government services, and contact friends and family on Skype etc. The courses are completed over 8 hours (4 x 2 hour classes) and cost €20 per person. Bruree-based computer training service, Mobile IT, in association with Ballyhoura Development, will deliver the courses at training venues across the Ballyhoura area from January to April this year.
The next courses in the Charleville area will run at Charleville Community Hall, as follows:
Active Aged (morning course): Starting Thursday 6th February 2014, 10.00 am-12.00 pm, and continuing on the following three Thursday mornings.
General Community (afternoon course): Starting Thursday 6th February 2014, 1.00 pm-3.00 pm, and continuing on and continuing on the following three Thursday afternoons. Farming Community (Evening course): At the Mobile IT Centre, Bruree, with times and dates to be confirmed.

BRUREE NOTES 12/1/2014

GAA:

AGM: The Annual General Meeting of Bruree GAA was held last weekend and attracted a large attendance. The chairman welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming. The meeting looked back at a busy 2013 and looked forward with anticipation to the coming year. The secretary and treasurer both presented very comprehensive reports. The club would like to thank everyone involved with the club during the past year and everyone who helped in any way with the running and financing of the club.

BRUREE NOTES 20/10/2013:

CALCUTTA CALLING:

Maura Allen is again returning to Calcutta. A fundraising table quiz is being held at the Central Bar, Bruree, on Friday, November 8th, starting at 9.00 pm. Subscription for a team of four is just €20. Every euro raised on the night will go directly to Calcutta. Your support on the night would be greatly appreciated. The quiz is to raise much needed funds to continue supporting a project in Calcutta started by Fr. Pat Hogan and his group back in 2005.

BADMINTON:

Bruree Badminton Club is up and going again in the community hall for the new season. The club is open for members and the membership fee is the same as last year at €30 for social membership and €40 for competitive membership. This must be paid before end of this month. There is training/play every Monday and Wednesday night from 9.00 to 11.00 pm. New members are always welcome - just turn up any Monday or Wednesday night.

PHOTOS:

The photos collected for the Gathering weekend are now available to view in the De Valera Museum and De Valera Heritage Centre. The centre is open Monday to Thursday 9.00 to 5.00 and Friday 9.00 to 4.30 pm.

ROCKHILL AND BRUREE COMMUNITY HALL:

Now taking bookings for the autumn and winter season! If your club would like to book the hall and secure the day and time you want, please phone the community hall on 086 056 5544. All bookings will be on a “first come, first secured” basis. Facilities include: Large Hall with viewing space, stage, 2 badminton courts, hand ball alley, large outdoor space and kitchen. The Hall is also available for hire for functions. Phone 086 056 5544 for further information. Upcoming events include a Halloween children’s disco and a Christmas Fair on Sunday 1st December. Details to follow.

INDOOR CAR BOOT SALE:

An indoor car boot sale will be held in Bruree Community Hall on Saturday, October 26th, from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm.

HOLY SOULS:

The Holy Souls special day in Emmanuel House, Clonfert, will take place on Sunday, November 10th. It will be led by Eddie Stones and various priests. Book early as the bus is more than half full already. Names (with fare of €20) should be given to Ann Mockler (063-90564). All are welcome.

Bag Packing: Many thanks to everyone that supported our recent bag packing fundraiser in Supervalu, Charleville. Thanks to the staff in Supervalu for their assistance and patience! STEPPING STONES PLAYSCHOOL:

The after-school service at Stepping Stones Community Playschool has started and is doing really well. Remember, the playschool want everyone to avail of this handy service and also want to make it affordable for everyone. Families in receipt of social welfare payments can avail of the service from 2.00 - 3.00 pm every day from as little as €5 per week. BRUREE NOTES 1/9/2013

TIDY TOWNS:

Bruree Rockhill Tidy Towns are having their church gate collection on this Saturday and Sunday, September 7/8th. All money donated goes straight into the Tidy Town effort in the village. We are hoping to give the village a good tidy on this Saturday, September 7th before the gathering weekend of September 12th15th. All and any help on the day is greatly appreciated. We hope to start at 11.00 am and do a couple of hour’s strimming, picking rubbish, painting and cutting some bushes at the picnic area near the bridge.

MEMORIES BRUREE AND ROCKHILL:

Plans for the Gathering weekend in the parish have now been finalised and everything is in place for a great weekend of memories, nostalgia and celebration. It takes place from September 12th - 15th and the theme of the weekend is Memories of Rockhill and Bruree. 
On Thursday, September 12th, there will be an opportunity to preview a selection of the photos which will be displayed over the weekend. This takes place in the De Valera Museum and Bruree Heritage Centre from 7.00 to 9.00 pm. The official opening will take place at the Community Hall on Friday, September 13th, at 8.00 pm. Eamon Ó Cuiv TD will perform the ceremony and will give a short talk on his memories of his grandfather, Eamon de Valera, the family man as distinct from the politician. The night will finish with a traditional Irish rambling house with music song and dance. Admission for the night is just €5 which includes the usual lavish tea.
The much awaited and talked about photo exhibition will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 14/15th, in St. Patrick’s National School, Bruree, from 1.00 to 5.00 pm each day. Admission is free. Please note the venue.
There will be a historic walk through the village on Saturday, September 14th, at 1.00 pm with the walk leaders describing how the village looked in the past and remembering past residents and businesses.
The night of Saturday, September 14th, will be a night of nostalgia in the Community Hall with live and disco music providing an opportunity for all ages to take to the dance floor with waltzes, quicksteps, jive, hip-hop, rock ‘n’ roll, disco, etc. The dress code for the night is Rockhill Bruree Through the Decades so start searching your wardrobe for suitable attire and get into the spirit of the night! Pick an outfit from your favourite decade and be in with a chance to win a prize for the best dressed on the night. There will be full bar facilities and a barbeque and other activities are being finalised for the night. Admission is €25 which includes Barbeque food and three (3) drinks. Tickets are available from committee members and you are asked to please purchase yours as soon as possible.
The weekend will conclude with a family fun day at Bruree Sportsfield which will include fun activities for all ages from bouncy castles to a tug of war.

The proceeds of the weekend will go towards the Rockhill Bruree Sportsfield Development so all moneys raised will be staying in the parish to provide sports and recreational facilities for young and not so young in the parish.

The next traditional Irish Rambling House will be held on Friday, September 13th, in Bruree hall, starting at 8.00 pm sharp. This will be part of The Gathering 2013 weekend in the parish.

RADIO DRAW:

East Limerick Community Radio is holding a fundraising draw with €2,000 in prizes, including a first prize of €1,000. Tickets are €5 and are available from John Harrold and other station volunteers and presenters. The station broadcasts on 96.8FM and 97.3FM seven days a week.

JUVENILE GAA:
 
It has been a very busy week for the Under 8s. Bruree played a friendly football match against Dromin Athlacca in Banogue last Wednesday night. Bruree played very well on the night and had a great win over their opponents. We would like to thank Dromin Athlacca for inviting us to play.
Bruree Under 8 football team were invited to take part in an All County Football Blitz in UL on last Friday night.   Once again Bruree turned out in large numbers and, as a result of this, we had two teams taking part in the Blitz.  Each of the two teams played 3 matches and in doing this they were a credit to Bruree GAA in the outstanding performances that each player gave.
The Management would like to thank all the parents who travelled to Limerick on the night.

BRUREE NOTES 18/8/2013

BADMINTON:

Bruree Badminton Club will hold a Sports Table Quiz at the Central Bar, Bruree, on this Friday, August 23rd, starting at 9.00 pm. The club was reformed earlier this year and enjoyed a successful season. Subscription for the quiz is €20 for a table of four and there will be a raffle on the night as well. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Plans for the Gathering weekend in the parish are now being finalised and details will be released over the coming weeks. The Gathering weekend - Memories of Rockhill and Bruree - takes place from September 12th - 15th and it promises to be one of the biggest weekend in the parish in recent years. 
Photos continue to come in for the exhibition planned as part of the weekend’s actiovities. Interest in the related Facebook page continues to grow. This is a “Like” page not a “Friends” page, so when you access the page be sure to “Like” it. The page currently has over 640 likes and has an average reach of 10,000 every week since the page went live in mid June.  We will continue to add more photos to the site, so be sure and visit it at www.facebook.com/MemoriesRockhillandBruree.

CLIONA’S FOUNDATION:

Cliona’s Foundation Cycle, now in its 6th year will take place on Saturday August 31st leaving from the Honeyfitz Theatre, Lough Gur.
With three routes this year including an 8km for family and funsters (fee €25.00), the organisers have appealed to experienced cyclists with a challenging 90km route (fee €30.00)  and a less arduous 40km route (€30.00) for leisure cyclists. Following the cycle there’s a BBQ, face painting, music and bouncy castle to keep the entire family entertained.   Registration online atwww.eventmaster.ie. CV WORKSHOP:

Ballyhoura Jobs Club has announced a series of CV workshops throughout the Ballyhoura country area for the coming weeks. The workshops are designed to help local people prepare a professional CV and cover letter to attract employers.
VENUES: Charleville – 2nd September, Mitchelstown – 3rd September.
Why not take this opportunity to dust off your CV? As one recent participant said: "This workshop helped me to define my key strengths and skills and gave me to confidence to apply for jobs again. Shortly after the workshop I got a number of interviews and I am now after successfully getting the job I wanted. This was thanks to Ballyhoura Jobs Club who gave me the kick-start to get out there and knock on doors again."

BRUREE ROCKHILL COMMUNITY GAMES:

Over 30 athletes competed on the weekend of June 22nd in Mungret in the County finals of the community games. All those who participated had a most enjoyable weekend representing their parish.
The following were among the prizewinners: Under 8 60m running: 3rd Niall Tobin, Under 8 60m plate: 3rd Shannon Carey, Under 10 mixed relay: Elaine Frawley, Paddy Lynch, Katie Buckley, Gavin Cotter, Conor and Laura Frawley, Under 12 Ball Throw: 2nd  Frankie Barrington, Under 12 Long Puck: 4th Peter Buckley, Under 10 60m running: 1st Laura Frawley. Our group of athletes also won best turned out in the parade in the area.
At the end of a very successful year, the committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in any way. Our thanks to Jimmy Woulfe, school Principal and all the staff at St. Patrick's National School for their help and for the use of the school’s facilities. For all the coaches who gave up their time to train the children in soccer, cycling, athletics, rugby and music. To the parents for their commitment bringing kids to training sessions and to competitions all over the county. A special word of thanks to Mary Sweeney for her dedication, enthusiasm and guidance. 
Looking forward to doing it all again next year.

STEPPING STONES COMMUNITY PLAYSCHOOL:

We will be re-opening on Monday, September 2nd, at 9.15 am for playschool and we are delighted to announce that the after school service will also be starting that day!!
We will collect the children from the school and remain open until
